For most of the past 10 years, I’ve had the honor of attending the Professional Baseball Scouts Foundation Dinner, in Hollywood Ca. The Professional Baseball Scouts Foundation (PBSF) was founded in 2003 by Dennis Gilbert (White Sox exec), Roland Hemond (Diamondbacks exec) Dave Yoakum (White Sox scout) and Harry Minor (Mets scout). It is a non profit that helps scouts through tough times such as illness, job loss, or other unforeseen hardships. So many great people have been honored and helped because of this special group.
There were awards given, such as the Player Lifetime Achievement Award given to the Griffey’s. The dinner was amazing as usual, and we even sang Happy birthday to Tommy Lasorda (definitely not a group of professional singers lol). It was his 90th birthday.
There is always an invite only luncheon the following day, which is much smaller and more intimate. Its a great time to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. This year I got to spend hours with my friend, Ricky Hill, who was there promoting his upcoming movie, The Hill. This is a movie that no one will want to miss! Its a true story about one of the greats in baseball. Its inspirational and faith promoting, and proof that hard work and passion can get you anywhere if you believe in yourself. I’m looking forward to flying out during filming to watch the magic happen.
I also got to spend time with Dan Jennings and Bill Bryk. These two men have more knowledge and expertise about baseball and people than anyone I know. The best part of them is how much they care about each player they come in contact with. I know that no-one can spend time with either one of these men without walking away a better person. I’m so grateful to have them by my side helping me create something that will change lives and build quality humans/athletes from the inside out.
